Meet Your New Equine Partner

We aren't a typical consignment or sales barn.
If we list a horse for sale, it has been throughly trained by us.
We know each horse intimately.
We know what that horse enjoys and excels at doing, and we know what they aren't so good at, or just don't like doing, which helps us ensure they find the perfect partner where everyone will be set up for success.

Plus, every horse we sell comes with the
De Frates Horsemanship Good Manners
Guarantee
You can count on your new equine partner to have great ground manners, and if anything undesirable happens in your first year of ownership, we'll give you a free 1 hour virtual lesson to help get you back on the right path.

Chubs

Once you see him, you can’t help but want to meet Chubs. This stunning, hunka hunka burning love is looking for a partner who shares his basic philosophy on life: “Everything is better when we do it together.” It doesn’t matter what “It” is to Chubs: arena work, trails, obstacles, just hanging out being goofy, doing tricks and playing games, or trying something new, Chubs wants to do it with you. Currently a jack of all trades (master of none) we see Chubs excelling in home where week days are spent schooling in the arena, and each weekend brings a new adventure.

Even though Chubs sticks at 15.3hh, he has a gloriously thick neck and he feels like a MUCH bigger horse. He weighs 1250 pounds! If you have a fear of heights, Chubs is not for you. Based on his coloring and movement, we believe Chubs to be part Brabant or Percheron. His walk is easy going, his trot is elevated, more like a Warmblood, and his canter, silky smooth. His gaits are forward and powerful, but not necessarily fast and he is not hot or reactive. We can tell that his past riders have been hesitant for him to really open up. You have to really want him to move out to experience the grandeur this boy possesses. Based on his gaits alone, we recommend at least a confident intermediate rider.

Chubs’ best fit will be a western style rider who isn’t afraid of his big movement and is comfortable steering a horse with their seat and legs. Chubs neck reins or direct reins and has the strong potential to go bridleless with an experienced rider. For those less experienced, just don’t hang on his face, Chubs finds it rude and will let you know by pulling back to release the pressure. Guess who wins if you decide to play tug of war with this much muscle? Heavy hands need not apply. While he can sit for weeks and be back to his normal self after a brief round pen session, Chubs LOVES to be ridden, more than any horse I’ve ever met actually. Therefore we want to see him go to an active household. Never sour in any way, has all the ground manners you’d want, loads into any trailer like a dream, is an easy keeper who requires no maintenance, and is always sound.

Up to date with teeth, deworming, vaccinations, and has big, strong bare feet.

Pre-purchase exams welcomed at buyers expense. Sellers can help arrange transportation, again at buyers expense. Proudly shown by De Frates Horsemanship in Gilroy, CA.

Asking only $12,500 as Chubs does come with a brief medical history that will be fully disclosed to serious buyers.
